This sourcebook is part of an ongoing research project to both identify and illustrate fashion designs and fashion trends throughout the 20th century.  The many sociopolitical, economic and technological developments that occurred in the last century undoubtedly influenced and inspired the fashion designs and fashion trends of the times, and thus, this sourcebook will attempt to document 20th century fashion arts from both a historical and cultural perspective. Perhaps Coco Chanel said it best when she observed that "[f]ashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."
